In a major push for infrastructure development, the Odisha government has announced the ₹3,651 crore Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative. Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena revealed the ambitious plan in the Assembly, outlining a vision to modernize civil aviation, railway networks, and interstate transport.

Major Boost to Civil Aviation

Odisha is set to enhance its aviation landscape with ₹328 crore earmarked for new airports and upgrades. The key highlights include:

A new greenfield airport in Paradip to strengthen coastal connectivity.

Upgrades to existing airports in Jeypore, Dandabosh, Rangeilunda, Jamadarapali, and Tusara.

Plans for a second international airport in Puri and expansion of the Biju Patnaik Aviation Centre in Dhenkanal.

A fully funded pilot training program for 10 tribal women, paving the way for inclusivity in aviation.

Rail and Road Network Expansion

₹320 crore dedicated to railway connectivity, ensuring smoother travel across major regions.

₹466 crore allocated for road transport improvements, enhancing efficiency and safety.

A massive ₹2,483 crore investment to expand mass transit networks, catering to the growing demand for public transport.

12 new AC sleeper buses to improve intercity travel, connecting Bhubaneswar with Tirupati, Indore, Shirdi, Ayodhya, Hyderabad, and Bhilai.

To enhance road safety, Odisha will implement the Intelligence Enforcement Management System (IEMS) across key highways, including:

Shree Jagannath International Airport: Puri’s Next Big Project

The much-anticipated Shree Jagannath International Airport in Puri is progressing rapidly. The government has set aside 1,164 acres in Sipasarubali and Sandhapur villages, with public hearings scheduled for March 21 and 28. This ₹5,631 crore project will unfold in three phases, strengthening Odisha’s position as a key travel hub.
