Triumph in Barbados: India Clinches T20 World Cup 2024 in Thrilling Finale
A Night of Celebration and Farewell as
Kohli, Sharma, and Jadeja Retire
Euphoria swept across India as Team India secured the T20 World Cup 2024, with fans filling the streets, proudly waving the Tricolour. Social media buzzed with congratulatory messages and images of the jubilant scenes that followed India's nail-biting seven-run victory over South Africa at the Kensington Oval, Barbados, marking an ICC title win after 13 years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian Cricket Team for bringing the ICC T20 World Cup "home in style," while President Draupadi Murmu lauded their "never-say-die" spirit.
In a historic turn of events, three of India's cricket legends – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja – announced their T20I retirements following the victory. Kohli revealed his decision moments after the triumph, captain Rohit Sharma shared his retirement during the post-match press conference, and all-rounder Jadeja posted his announcement on social media.
The final match against South Africa was a tense
thriller, with India defending a target of 176 runs. The Proteas seemed poised
for victory, needing only 30 runs from the last 30 deliveries. However, India's
bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh, held their
ground in the crucial moments. Pandya, in particular, excelled in the final
over, defending 16 runs and securing a dramatic seven-run win for India.
