Air India Launches Flying Training School in Amravati, Operations Set for Early 2026
South Asia's Largest Flying Training
Organization to Address Pilot Shortage
Air India unveiled plans on Monday to establish a Flying Training Organization (FTO) in Amravati, Maharashtra, aiming to commence operations by early 2026. This initiative marks the first such endeavor by an Indian airline and will feature 31 single-engine and 3 twin-engine aircraft for pilot training.
The FTO, situated at Amravati’s Belora airport and licensed by the DGCA, targets to certify 180 commercial pilots annually. Campbell Wilson, Air India's Managing Director and CEO, emphasized the school’s role in enhancing self-reliance in Indian aviation and providing career opportunities for aspiring pilots.
Awarded a 30-year tender by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company, Air India plans to offer world-class training programs aligned with global standards. Sunil Bhaskaran, Director of Air India's Aviation Academy, highlighted the academy’s contribution to India's aviation infrastructure growth and Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
The announcement comes amid concerns raised by CAPA
about manpower shortages in aviation, exacerbated by new regulations and
competition from Middle Eastern carriers. Earlier this year, Air India also
revealed plans for South Asia’s largest training academy in Gurugram,
underscoring its commitment to meet the sector’s growing demands.
