Violence Erupts Over Waqf Act: 110+ Held in West Bengal’s Murshidabad!

West Bengal Police have arrested more than 110 individuals in Murshidabad district in connection with widespread violence during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The unrest, which affected multiple regions including Malda, South 24 Parganas, and Hooghly, involved incidents of arson, stone-pelting, and road blockades.

According to officials, the highest number of arrests occurred in Murshidabad, with 70 people detained from Suti and 41 from Samserganj. Raids are ongoing across the affected districts.

Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders and suspended internet services in Murshidabad, the district most severely hit by the violence. While the situation remained tense on Saturday morning, no new incidents were reported.

“Extensive patrolling is underway in the Suti and Samserganj areas. We are taking all necessary steps to prevent any regrouping or attempts to disrupt law and order,” a police officer said. The official also urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading or believing in rumors circulating on social media.
