The sudden death of a promising young swimmer has sparked concerns about the adequacy of safety measures in training facilities.

Aleina Dutta Bhattacharya, 15 years old, died mysteriously in the Bidhan Nagar Municipal Corporation Swimming Pool in Kolkata. The mother of the ace swimmer, winner of numerous national level awards, was by the poolside when she died suddenly.

While she did not emerge from the pool for quite some time, the Life Savers got anxious & fished her out, and on being taken to a nearby hospital was pronounced dead. No amount of artificial resuscitation could revive her. She was practising underwater swimming as she was to participate in an Event recently. She was found inside the Swimming Pool in a Sitting Posture.

The doctors suggested that she suffered a massive Cardiac Arrest while swimming. Overall a massive loss for the grieving parents, both techies, is unforgivable. Aleina has a younger sibling, who is a budding swimmer too. One feels that Health Checks, before underwater swimming exercises are a must. As per reports such checks were undertaken & she was declared fit for the exercise. 

Reality would be known after Post post-mortem reports come in and proper medical analysis is carried out. Whatever the report, a budding young talent was cut short forever.
