Tragic End for Missing Bangladesh MP in Kolkata!

High-Profile Murder in Kolkata, Bangladesh MP Found Dead, Key Suspects Detained!

Kolkata/Dhaka: In a shocking development, police have confirmed that missing Bangladesh MP Md Anwarul Azim was murdered. Dhaka Metropolitan Police made three arrests on Wednesday, revealing the grim fate of the three-time Awami League lawmaker. West Bengal police reported on Wednesday that Azim, who vanished a day after arriving in Kolkata on May 12 for medical treatment, was murdered. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been deployed to locate his body and investigate the crime.

Bangladesh's Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan, disclosed at a Dhaka press conference that three suspects were detained in connection with the premeditated murder of Azim, following intelligence shared by Indian authorities. The arrests in Dhaka revealed that the suspects allegedly accompanied Azim to India and returned to Bangladesh after the murder. Kolkata's IG (CID) Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi stated, "Anwarul Azim Anar had been missing since May 13. His daughter couldn't reach him, leading to a missing person's report at Baranagar Police Station."

An SIT, formed to investigate, received a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) directive for a thorough probe. "Today, we received confirmation of his murder. The CID is rigorously working on this case," Chaturvedi added. Azim disappeared from a flat in Kolkata's New Town area. After arriving in Kolkata on May 12 via the Gede border in Nadia district, he visited his friend Gopal Biswas in Baranagar before moving to the New Town apartment, where he was last seen. Bloodstains found in the flat have been collected by forensic experts, and CCTV footage shows Azim accompanied by two men and a woman, who later left the premises.

The MP’s daughter, Mumtarin Firdous Dorin, expressed her anguish in Dhaka, demanding justice and the arrest of those responsible for her father's death. Meanwhile, IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun assured that Bangladeshi and Indian police are collaborating closely on this high-profile case.
